Rosario Joins MAMI As Full-Time Spanish Interpreter
UTICA, July 26, 2010 MAMI Interpreters recently hired Yurki Rosario as a full-time Spanish interpreter and dispatcher.
When not interpreting in the field, Rosario is available in the Utica office to assist Hispanic families with such activities as filling out forms, translating short documents and brief interpreting for their personal matters. She also helps dispatch interpreters to assignments.
Her family immigrated to New York City from the Dominican Republic 28 years ago. Born in Manhattan, she grew up and attended schools in Queens. Rosario completed the 80-hour MAMI medical interpreter course last December and began working as a contract interpreter in January while completing studies at Mohawk Valley Community College. She graduated from MVCC in May.
Previously, Rosario worked for the Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter as a respite specialist.
She lives in Utica with her husband, Jason Rosario, a former Marine who deployed twice to Iraq. They have a 2-year-old daughter, Janiyah.
With offices in Utica and Syracuse, MAMI (Multicultural Association of Medical Interpreters) provides interpreting and translating for health, legal and community agencies. MAMI also offers ESL (English as second language) classes in specialty areas and culturally mediated seminars for limited-English populations.
