Duong Joins MAMI As Full-Time Vietnamese Interpreter
UTICA, July 13, 2010 MAMI Interpreters (Multicultural Association of Medical Interpreters) recently hired Anh Marie Duong as a full time Vietnamese interpreter.
When not interpreting in the field, Duong will be available in the Utica office to assist Vietnamese families with such activities as filling out forms, translating short documents and brief interpreting for their personal matters.
Duong came to the United States from Viet Nam in 1983. She explained that she “got kicked out of Vietnam because my father is American. The government said I had to go where I belonged.” She immigrated to the United States with her mother and sister.
Previously, Duong worked for ConMed in Utica as an assembler and group leader for 17 years. She recently took the 80-hour MAMI medical interpreter course and is preparing to take the court interpreting exam.
She lives in Utica with her daughter, Nisa, and mother, Anh Duong.
With offices in Utica and Syracuse, MAMI provides interpreting and translating for health, legal and community agencies. MAMI also offers ESL (English as second language) classes in specialty areas and culturally mediated seminars for limited-English populations.
